Washes, impasto, oil and wax, undulating patterns and spirals, metamorphosis and change describe a world in flux. Emerging and dissolving energies suggest processes in nature. Early neutral ranges of all colors give way to radiant fields, webs of color and sound.

Time and Timelessness, unstretched linen  2010-13

Large overlapping marks simulate natural color. Issues of scale, transparency, movement, form vs. non-form evoke a physical presence connected to nature, a sense both vast and immediate.

DOTS AND POOLS 2005-2016

Black dots overlapping pools of acrylic color swirl and cascade through an indeterminate space. Imagined landscapes express energies on the move, where forces collide, overIap and whirl. I began these paintings and drawings at a residency in Montenegro, where the water is a crystal blue, and sunlight illuminates brilliant colors.

LANDSCAPES COMPOSITES

The pure qualities of painting: paint stroke, color, texture, scraped line, tone and light, and the simplest possible description of landscape, unite to create vivid horizontals that take the eye back and forth in the experience of absorbing landscape space. Minimal, modular, abstracted yet referencing nature, light glows through each composition.
